Every time you see someone laughing at news of abnormally cold weather as if it somehow disproves "global warming" (or, if you don't want to confuse the idiots, "climate change"), there are only two possible explanations. Either they're genuinely stupid and don't understand the theory at all, or they understand it perfectly well and are just fostering ignorance for political gain.
The theory holds that, as a result of increasing amounts of greenhouse gases being added to the atmosphere, the average temperature on Earth is increasing. And because local weather patterns are greatly affected by currents of air and water, and because those are significantly altered when polar ice melts, it is entirely predictable that as global warming takes hold there will be extremes of cold as well as hot weather. The evidence that the climate is changing would include unprecedented winters as much as unprecedented summers. If it's suddenly snowing close to summer in Australia, that's a hint that things are wrong, not that nothing's changing and we should continue doing whatever the hell we like to the atmosphere.
So all this "silly warmenistas - it's really cold today!" drivel makes very little sense. And posts like this one from tim today could only be funny if you were a partisan moron.
Lucky there are places on the Internet where you can be sure to find them, isn't it?
